Jonah is Here!

This weekend was set out to be a productive weekend. Erin's parents were coming in town with the purpose of cleaning the house up and getting it straightened out a bit. We started the majority of the work on Saturday. Erin and I woke up Saturday morning and began to work on the nursery. We were trying to arrange some of the gifts we had received from the shower and also adjust the clothing in the new furniture. After working on the nursery for a while, I began to work on some assignments for seminary while Erin rested and waited for her parents. After Erin's parents arrived, they decided that they wanted to eat at Mimi's Cafe. Since I had not finished my school work, I decided to stay home and get some work done. After mistaking the amount of time it would take to complete reading, I finished earlier than expected and caught up with Erin and her parents. I could really tell that Erin was exhausted, but since her parents were down to help, she was determined to get things done.  So, we ran a few errands and made our way back to the house. When we arrived, Erin's father and I began to work on a mural for Jonah's room (a whale) while Erin and her mother began rearranging some of the closets in the house. After a couple hours of work, Erin decided to take a shower to get ready for bed around 10. Her feet had began to swell and she was starting to feel funny. After getting out of the shower, Erin put on her pajamas and felt the urge to use the bathroom. Suddenly, out of nowhere, her water broke. Erin yelled for me and I came to the bathroom door. She began to explain that she thought her water had just broke and we needed to call the doctor. Well, because this was completely unexpected, the adrenaline kicked in big time. I began to rummage around the house for the doctor's number and trying to figure out what we should do. Dr. Maddison was on call and responded to our phone call. She told us to come in and we arrived at the hospital around 11. We were immediately admitted and little did we know but Erin was already dilated 6 cm. The nurse and Dr. Maddison could not believe how fast the birth was going and they seemed to think that the baby would be here no later than 3:30. Well, after a couple of hours of pushing and the talk of a C-section, we realized that maybe the baby was not going to come as quickly as we thought. Erin decided that she wanted to take a break for about an hour and then resume pushing. This seemed to do the trick. After pushing for two more hours, we had Jonah Nathan at 6:59 am. He weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches.
